Context
ChronoTrack has been an industry standard race timing software and hardware suite used all over the world for over two decades. Partnering with our head of sales, support team, lead product manager and some of our largest timers we built a native mobile timing app for both iOS and Android to work along with the AeroTrack handheld reader for timing athletes at the largest events all over the world.

Product Research
"Software is desktop only. I have to lug around expensive laptops that get stolen or damaged. The timing hardware is very large and staff are needed to haul it and keep expensive giant batteries charged all the time. This gets expensive for us and the events. Need something that can run on our phones during a race and equipment that is much more portable for all events and staff."
"We like your software CTLive, it's easy to use and setup races for timing. Don't change much here. I really don't want to have to re-learn software and then train my staff on those updates or changes."

User Interview
Owner of Race Timing Co.
"For us, we would use the app as a stand alone for now to replace our machines. We could use the hardware reader with tri-tags for swim races etc.. can you guys handle that? We could use that!"

User Interview
Head Timing - NYC Marathon
"I would use the app stand alone for timing and remote splits, very handy! Aid stations miles into a race etc. we could definitely use several of the handheld RFID reader devices for our staff."

Product Requirement
VP Product & CEO
"We need a native iOS and Android app that will time events manually, or via a handheld RFID reader with the app. It should be just like our existing CTLive Admin software and hardware setup."
Consensus was that core timing features were essential and that should be the focus. Ensure the above controller and software core functions fit into the app seamlessly, and make setting it up as close to the existing product suite as possible. This allowed us to leverage existing architecture and data. We also decided to use Flutter to optimize engineering resources for both iOS and Android platforms. Below is our MVP flow for connecting a user to the cloud and to time a race with or without the reader hardware.
